Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball was in action on Wednesday night, taking on The University of Olivet in MIAA competition. Alma was victorious by a final of 72-55.
Opening the game, the teams traded baskets, with 11 points going on the board in the first two minutes of play. Alma held the lead until Olivet hit a pair of go-ahead threes to lead 12-10 at the halfway point of the period. The Comets led for the majority of the back end in quarter one, and it wasn't until a made three gave Alma the lead, with
Molly Deurloo forcing a steal and converting a bucket at the buzzer. It gave the Scots a three-point advantage after one, 21-18. In the second quarter Olivet jumped back in front, leading 27-26 at the halfway mark of the period. The Comet lead never made it above four, and it was the Scots who eked out a five point lead at halftime.
Out of the half, the Scots offense exploded for 29 points in the third quarter. A pair of
Sarah Ebel threes stretched the Alma lead from five to 11 in just a 40-second span. The lead was at 14 for Alma at the halfway point of the period, and the Scots advantage reached 22, its highest total of the game, with threes from Ebel and
Kate Starkey, and a pair of
Molly Deurloo free throws. At the end of the third, the Scots led 65-44. In the fourth quarter points were hard to come by. Alma's lead never dipped below 15 points, and the Scots ran out 72-55 winners.
Kate Starkey led with 17 points and three rebounds.
Molly Deurloo had 13 points and six rebounds, as did
Cadence Kaminske with two rebounds.
Sarah Ebel also tallied 13 points, along with a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Scots move to 9-11 on the season with the win, 5-6 in MIAA play. Alma is back in action on Saturday, hosting No. 13 Hope College for the Be Like Tye game.
