ALMA, Mich. – Hosting their home opener of the 2026 season, the Alma College men's lacrosse team welcomed Lawrence University from across Lake Michigan to Bahlke Field on a breezy and snowy Sunday afternoon. The Scots went into the half tied with the Vikings, though the visitor's halftime adjustments proved to be the determining factor as Alma faced defeat to the score of 12-4.
Lawrence scored the game's first goal just four minutes into action, followed by a Scots goal four minutes later. Cuyler Fielhauer was the Scots scorer on the opening tally, tying the game up at ones aside. Alma took their first lead of the game in the second quarter on a Nolan O'Dea shot that found the back of the net, setting Alma up to head into the break leading. Several minutes later, the Vikings found an equalizer with under a minute to go in the half, ultimately sending both teams into the locker rooms tied at 2-2.
Alma opened the scoring for the second half just seven seconds into play on a Fielhauer goal assisted by Curtis Pleiness off the faceoff. Alma's lead would be overtaken shortly after though as the Vikings offense found a rhythm and scored the game's next eight goals, including two in the fourth quarter. Down 10-3, Fielhauer added his third of the game with seven minutes left in the game off a pass from Elias Rakoczy, scoring the Scots final goal of the game. Lawrence would add two more tallies before the final buzzer, handing Alma their third loss of the season.
Fielhauer led the Scots in scoring again with three goals while Pleiness and Rakoczy each added an assist. Patrick hodges grabbed to ground balls as well as two caused turnovers to lead the Scots in those respective categories as well.
Alma will now look towards a match up with Beloit College, scheduled for Saturday, February 28th, in Beloit, Wisconsin. Game time is slated for a 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET face off.
