Alma, MI – Alma College Tennis was in action on Friday night, taking on the University of St. Francis in the Stone Rec Center. Alma's women were victorious by a final of 7-0, while the men were defeated 7-0.
Women (Alma 7, St. Francis 0)
On the women's side the Scots swept doubles play to open competition. The duo of
Leah Wronikowski and
Karly Kushner won 6-2 at no. 1.
Holly Hall and
Jada Zerlaut combined to win 6-2 at no. 2, and the no. 3 pairing of
Kayden Alli and
Izzy Troost won 6-0 to complete the sweep and give Alma the doubles team point.
In singles action, Kushner was taken to the tiebreaker at no. 1, narrowly winning 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8). Wronikowski won 7-5, 6-4 at no. 2, and Zerlaut cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Holly Hall was also taken to the tiebreaker at no. 4, coming out on top 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (10-3). Closing things out, Alli comfortably won at no. 5, 6-2, 6-0, and
Izzy Troost won 6-1, 6-1 at no. 6.
Men (St. Francis 7, Alma 0)
On the men's side, doubles play resulted in a trio of 6-3 defeats,
Jake Lasceski and
Ashton Trnka were defeated at no. 1 doubles,
Alex Jonas and
John Laxton lost at no. 2, and
Christian Beyers and
Eli Festerling were dropped at no. 3. St. Francis claimed the team doubles point.
In singles action, the Lasceski lost at no. 1 6-2, 6-2. Trnka was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at no. 2, and Jonas lost 6-3, 6-0 at no. 3. The back half of the lineup saw Festerling go down 6-0, 6-2 at no. 4, Beyers defeated 6-1, 6-0 at no. 5, and
Jacob McNew downed 6-2, 6-3 at no. 6 to close things out.
The Scots are back in action when they host Wittenberg on Saturday.
