ALBION, Mich. — Alma (6-10,0-1 Michigan Intercol. Ath. Assn.) battled throughout Friday's road match-up with Albion (13-2,1-0 Michigan Intercol. Ath. Assn.), but the Scots ultimately fell to the Britons in three sets, 25-15, 25-19, 25-20.
Alma showed its resilience throughout the match, particularly in the final set. The Scots continued to compete point-for-point late, with a kill from
Emily Carling bringing Alma within five at 22-19. Emma Pagliarella followed with a kill to make it 23-19 before Albion closed out the set.
Carling led the Scots offensively with eight kills, while Pagliarella added five. Nevea Bush contributed four kills as Alma finished the night with 25 kills and 25 assists.
The Scots also found success defensively, recording six total blocks. Alma kept battling at the net and on the back row, finishing with 32 digs on the night.
After Albion took the opening set 25-15, Alma responded with a stronger second set. The Scots stayed within striking distance throughout the frame before Albion secured a 25-19 win.
Alma continued to fight in the third set, keeping the match competitive into the closing points. The Scots put together several late points, including kills from Carling and Pagliarella, but Albion ultimately finished the sweep with a 25-20 third-set victory.
Despite the final result, Alma continued to compete through all three sets and showed its ability to create opportunities offensively and battle defensively against Albion.
The Scots will travel to Olivet University on Wednesday to take on the Comets.
