Women's Basketball Defeated by Nationally Ranked Trine University

Sarah Ebel led scoring efforts with 11 points

Angola, IN – Alma College Women's Basketball was on the road on Saturday, taking on nationally ranked Trine University in MIAA conference play. The Scots were defeated by a final of 66-37.
 
The Thunder jumped all over Alma in the opening quarter, flying out to a 9-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Alma struggled to find points, with the Scots only marks on the scoreboard coming at the free throw line. The Thunder held the visitors without a made field goal, and Alma trailed 15-3 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Trine pulled further ahead in the opening moments of the second quarter. A Reese Wisniewski three represented the first make from the floor for Alma, but it was the Thunder who led by 14 by that point, 20-6. That lead stood at 22-8 before the Scots collected a pair of made jumpers, working their way up to 16 points in the half. However, it was the home team that put up another 11 to match, and the Scots trailed 31-16 at halftime.
 
Out of the half, Alma and Trine traded free throws, with no made field goals until the 4:44 mark, when Sarah Ebel converted on a layup. However, it was Trine who connected on a 15-4 run to close the quarter with the score at 48-25. In the fourth quarter, Trine poured on 18 more points to Alma's 12., despite the Scots shooting five of eight from the floor in the period. The final score rested at Trine 66, Alma 37.
 
Sarah Ebel led Alma's scorers in the loss with 11 points and four rebounds. Molly Deurloo collected six points and five rebounds. Reese Wisniewski led rebounders in the game for Alma with seven boards, and five points.
 
Alma drops to 8-11, 4-6 in MIAA play, and continues with a home game with The University of Olivet on Wednesday. Alma will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, with a night full of fanfare.
