Women's Basketball Upended by Bulldogs

Adrian, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball was in action on Wednesday night, continuing MIAA conference play at Adrian College. The Scots were defeated by a final of 80-67.
 
Adrian got out to an early 11-6 lead, holding the five-point lead at the halfway point of the first quarter. The Scots heated up, going six of seven across the rest of the period and outscoring the Bulldogs 14-11 en route to a 20-19 lead at the end of one. Alma put together another 15-11 scoring run to open the second half, leading by as much as nine points. The Scots held a 35-30 lead at the halfway point of the period. However, it was Adrian who would close on a 15-6 run, and the Bulldogs led 45-41 at the halftime break.

Coming out of the half, the home team strung together another 13-6 scoring run as Alma struggled to find points. It allowed the Bulldogs to push the game to the brink, with Adrian leading 58-47. However, Alma went basket for basket with the hosts, and managed to close the gap down to nine at the end of three, 65-57 the score. The fourth quarter turned out to be a defensive battle. Each team managed just five points in the opening half of the period. Despite a few late pushed by Alma, it was Adrian who pulled away to an 80-67 decision.

Kate Starkey led Alma's scorers with 20 points, along with a team-high three assists and two steals. Molly Deurloo had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Breckyn Werner had eight points and eight rebounds. Reese Wisniewski scored 10 points off the bench.

The Scots are back in action on Saturday at Trine.
