Starkey leads Alma scorers with 12 points

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball continued MIAA play on Saturday, hosting the Thunder of Trine University. The Scots were defeated by a final of 69-47.

The game got off to a slow scoring start, with the Scots collecting the first six points of the game. Opening the second quarter, Trine extended their lead to four points at 12-8, before the hosts rattled off five straight made baskets over the next three minutes. The result was a 12-0 run by Alma, that put the Scots up 20-12. Alma continued to convert from the floor as the quarter wore on, and held a five points advantage at the half, leading 32-27.

In the third quarter, Trine's defense clamped down, and makes were hard to come by for Alma. Trine retook the lead at 35-34 with seven minutes to play, and took it for good at the 5:36 mark, the score 37-35. The visitors retook the lead in the midst of a 10-1 Thunder run, en route to Trine leading 49-40 after three quarters. In the fourth, Trine continued to make life hard for Alma on the offensive side of the floor, while pulling away to secure the win. When the dust settled, the score read 69-47 in favor of Trine.

Kate Starkey led with 12 points and four rebounds. Cadence Kaminske had nine points and a pair of boards, and Breckyn Werner collected nine points and three rebounds.
