Alma, MI – Alma College Football welcomed Hanover College to Bahlke Field on Saturday afternoon. The Scots were narrowly defeated by the Panthers, 24-23.
Alma got on the board first, with a
Dylan Day 26-yard field goal at the 9:54 mark. Alma led 3-0 after the first quarter. Hanover was able to answer back with a 28-yard field goal of their own, converting with 4:25 to play in the opening half. The Panthers took the lead with 16 seconds left in the opening half, capping off an 11-play drive. The visitors led 10-3 at halftime.
Out of the half, the Scots leveled things with a touchdown from Brock Miller three minutes in, and
Eddie Williams scored from 19 yards out on the ground five minutes later to put the Scots in front at 17-10. Two more field goals from Day grew the Alma lead to 23-10, but a furious Hanover two-touchdown comeback put the visitors in front 24-23 with 28 seconds remaining. Alma drove down the field, but had their game-winning field goal attempt go wide left.
Carter St. John threw for 274 yards on 13 of 21 passing.
Eddie Williams became the Alma College Football career rushing leader with a 102 yard performance and a touchdown on the ground, surpassing Chris Clark's total of 2,820 in the second quarter. Brock Miller caught three passes for 122 yards and a touchdown to lead receivers.
Defensively,
Jett King and
Ryan Kugelman each had 10 tackles. King also led with 2.5 tackles for loss, and a sack for Alma.
The Scots drop to 1-2, and travel to #15/15 Hope College next week to open conference play.
