Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Lacrosse welcomed the Belles of Saint Mary's College on Saturday to continue MIAA play. Alma was defeated by a final of 11-8.
The Scots opened the scoring nearly halfway into the first quarter, when
Kylie Lewis scored off a
Rileigh McGeorge assist. The Scots added to the lead when
Briar-Rose Mackey tallied her first goal of the game. Leading 2-0 after the first, Mackey scored again to make a three-goal game. The Belles scored with under 30 seconds to play in the first half, and Alma led 3-1 at halftime.
Out of the half, Saint Mary's scored to get within one, but
Sarah Bollinger struck back with a shorthanded goal to put the Scots two goals to the good once more. As the quarter wore on, the visitors evened the score at 4-4, before
Maya Durham scored from a Lewis assist to give the lead back to the home side. Mackey fired home another goal minutes later to make the score 6-4. SMC tied things up with a pair of late goals, and the game headed to the final period knotted up at 6-6.
After a scoreless start, Mackey put Alma in front at the 12-minute mark. Saint Mary's would rip off a four-goal run to go up 10-7. A late goal from Lewis wasn't enough, with the Belles walking out 11-8 winners.
Mackey led the way with four goals, adding a pair of ground balls. Bollinger caused a game high five turnovers.
Cassidy Smith (0-2) made nine saves in the loss.
Alma returns to action on Tuesday night at Trine University.
