Softball Swept by Adrian

Alma, MI – Alma College Softball continued MIAA conference play on Saturday, welcoming the Bulldogs of Adrian College for a doubleheader. Alma was defeated by scores of 3-0 and 10-0.

Adrian 3, Alma 0
Game one was a classic pitchers duel, with neither of the starting hurlers willing to give up the game's opening run the first two times through the lineup. In a game where the teams combined to strand 15 runners on base, offense was coming at a premium. Adrian finally was able to draw first blood in the 6th inning on an RBI double, and added a pair of insurance runs in the 7th. Alma's offense was unable to answer, and the Scots went down in a 3-0 defeat.

Peyton Fether and Julia Duncan accounted for four of Alma's seven hits in the loss.

Morgan Westall (5-7) pitched all 7.0 innings in the game. She struck out 10 batters.

Adrian 10, Alma 0 (5 Innings)
Game two saw a hot start for the Adrian offense, as good hitting combined with several Alma errors allowed the guests to tag the Scots for seven runs in the 1st inning. Adrian added a run in the 2nd, and tacked on two more in the 3rd. Alma had two hits through the first four innings, and managed a pair of base knocks in the 5th, before the Bulldogs shut down any chance of a rally.

Mikaylyn Kenney (6-5) pitched 0.1 innings in the loss. She allowed seven runs, although none of them were earned. Grace Main pitched 2.1 innings in relief, striking out one. Bella Treloar finished the game with 1.1 innings of work.

Alma is off for finals week, with a home doubleheader against nationally ranked Trine University on April 18.
