Kalamazoo, MI – Alma College Women's Lacrosse was on the road Tuesday evening, taking on the Hornets of Kalamazoo College in MIAA action. Alma was defeated by a final of 19-9.
The opening minutes of the game were scoreless, with both teams trading jabs but not connecting. The Hornets opened the scoring with a pair of goals to go up 2-0, before
Sarah Bollinger hit back to cut the lead in half. After two more Kzoo goals, Mackey found the back of the net once again to cut the deficit to 4-2. The hosts would score once more before the quarter break, taking a 5-2 lead into the break.
Alma opened the second quarter with two goals to get back within one at 5-4, with the tallies coming from
Rileigh McGeorge and Mackey. Kalamazoo scored four straight to open up a 9-4 lead, before Mackey grabbed her third of the game on the way to a 10-5 halftime score.
Out of the half, Mackey scored as part of a back and forth opening to the quarter. Another four goal run put the hosts up comfortably at 15-6, and Kalamazoo led 18-7 after three quarters.
Joanna Scorziello and MaKayla Kozal each scored in a back-and-forth final period, with Kzoo holding on for 19-9 victory.
Mackey led the way with five goals and an assist. Bollinger collected a team high 6 ground balls, also causing 5 turnovers.
Alexis Norko (4-3) made 10 saves in the loss.
The Scots return home to continue MIAA action on Saturday against Saint Mary's.
