Women's Lacrosse Powers Past Hanover in Non-Conference Finale

Hanover, IN – Alma College Women's Lacrosse was on the road on Saturday, taking on the Panthers of Hanover College. Alma was victorious in their non-conference finale by a final of 19-6.

It took nearly half of the first quarter for the goose eggs to break on the scoreboard. Sarah Bollinger drew first blood at the 7:40 mark, and struck just 16 seconds later from a Briar-Rose Mackey assist to make it 2-0 Alma. After Hanover got on the board two minutes later, Kirsten Browne scored two goals, split by a Joanna Scorziello marker to put the Scots up 5-1. The hosts connected on a buzzer beating goal to end the quarter with Alma leading 5-2. 

Mackey scored 13 seconds into the second quarter, with Hanover clapping back one minute later. Alma was happy to answer back, with Mackey and Bollinger striking within 16 seconds of each other to move the Scots lead to 8-3. The hosts scored once more, with Mackey's hat-trick goal keeping the momentum in Alma's direction. Scorziello scored a pair of goals to close the half, with Alma leading 11-4 at the break.

Out of the half, Mackey and Browne combined to score five straight goals, blowing the game wide open at 16-4. Hanover netted one goal, with MaKayla Kozal keeping the lead at 12 with her 9th goal of the season. Kylie Lewis and Maya Durham both connected in the final period, with the latter scoring the first goal of her college career. Hanover managed one more goal in between the Scots scoring plays, and the final rested at 19-6.

Mackey led the way offensively, recording six goals and two assists. Browne added 4 tallies, while Bollinger and Scorziello each scored thrice.

Alexis Norko recorded 4 saves in the win.

Alma rounds out their non-conference schedule at 4-2, and opens MIAA play against Calvin University at home on Tuesday.
