Baseball Outgunned by #24 Rhodes College

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Alma College baseball team returned to the diamond, after a win over undefeated University of Chicago, on Tuesday February 25th, against #24 Rhodes College. The Scots had an early lead in the game, but the Lynx would come away victorious 16-6, moving Alma to 1-1 overall.

Alma opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning with a single to right field from Alexander Kavalick, which sent Brant Goodpaster home, after he was walked to lead off the game. Giuseppe Sapienza would also draw a walk in the batter's box, with the bases loaded, sending Kyler Warren across home plate, giving Alma a 2-0 lead halfway through the first. The Lynx would cut the Alma lead in half in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly, sending the Scots back on offense.

The Scots were held quiet in the second, while Rhodes would tie the game off a home run, looking to create a close game heading into the middle frames. Rhodes would add more additional scoring in the third with a ten spot to take a 12-2 lead through three, putting Alma in a pinch moving forward. The Lynx were able to tack on four more in the fourth to take a 14 run lead before Alma was able to put some runs back on the board.

In the fifth, Cameron Bleasdale singled to left field, scoring Goodpaster, who reached on a single as well and stole second.  In the sixth, following a couple walks and an error, Warren reached first on an error as well with the bases loaded, scoring Luke Lindsay and Sapienza. Bleasdale then made contact for a single to left center, scoring Charlie Martyn, and bringing the score to 16-6, the eventual final score.

Bleasdale would end up going two for three at the plate for the day as Kavalick would go two for four.

Alma will now travel south to Jackson, Mississippi for a several day series with the Majors of Millsaps College. The first game is set for Thursday, February 27th, with the first pitch at 6:00 PM CST.
