JACKSON, Miss. – The Alma College baseball team continued their spring break slate of game son Thursday, February 27th as the competed against Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. The Scots dropped their second-straight game, this time by a final score of 15-5.
Millsaps jumped out to an early lead in the contest, scoring four runs on a grand slam in the second inning, taking a 4-0 lead. The Scots were able to cut that deficit in half in the following inning Brant Goodpaster singled on the right side and Kyler Warren doubled to right center, putting base runners on. Cameron Bleasdale would single to right field as well, send both Goodpaster and Warren home, bringing the Majors lead down to two early in the contest.
The fourth proved to be all Millsaps as the Majors would score seven unanswered runs to pull away from the Scots, putting some heavy lifting in front of Alma for the remainder of the game. The Scots would buy one back in the fifth as Warren reached first on a fielder choice and advanced to second on a pass ball during the next at bat. Bleasdale then sent Warren to third on a ground out, setting Alexander Kavalick up for an RBI single to right field to score Warren. The majors would tack on four more runs in the seventh, leading by 11 with only six outs left for Alma. The eighth saw the Sots find another run as Jack McIntosh doubled to right field allowing for Charlie Chmielewski to single down the right field line and collect an RBI as McIntosh would score at home. Alma would tally their fifth and final run in the ninth as Goodpaster singled through the left side and then stole second. Warren then pounded a ball down the left field line for a double and sent Goodpaster home for the final fun of the game.
Goodpaster would lead Alma offensively going three for five at the plate, followed by Warren, Ethan Krafft and Chmielewski, who went two for five and two for four as well. Bleasdale collected two RBI in the game. The pitching staff struck out six as a unit with two from Alex Hardacre, three from Tyler Lasley and one from Blake Stone.
Alma will now prepare for game two in the series, set to take place on Friday, February 28th at Twenty Field. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM CST.
