Women's Basketball Stymies Adrian Offense in MIAA Win

Alma held the Bulldogs to under 30% from the floor in Saturday's nine-point victory

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball continued MIAA conference play on Saturday afternoon, when the Scots hosted Adrian College. Alma was victorious by a final of 62-53.
 
After Adrian scored the opening basket of the game, the Scots ripped off 13 points in a two-minute span to grow a quick double-digit lead at 13-3. The teams battled basket-for-basket the rest of the quarter, and Alma led 21-10 after one quarter. Molly Deurloo converted a three-point play to give Alma their largest lead of the game at 24-10. Adrian strung together a 10-4 run to cut into the margin, but the Scots rebounded with solid defense and a pair of baskets. The home team led 33-22 at the halftime break.

Out of the half, the teams scored evenly through the first half of the quarter. The Bulldogs refused to go away, with the visitors pulling out a 12-6 run to end the quarter with deficit cut to six at 46-60. The Scots opened the fourth quarter with a 9-3 run to open the lead back up to 12 at 55-43. Adrian responded with an 8-1 run of their own, but it was Alma who got the final momentum swing, with the Scots defense backing them to six unanswered points to put the game away. A Bulldog layup at the buzzer capped the scoring at 62-53 Alma.

The Scots limited Adrian to 28.1% from the floor, and 20% from three. Cadence Kaminske led Alma's scorers with 20 points Molly Deurloo recorded 15 points along with a team-high six rebounds, Kate Starkey had nine points and four assists, and Sarah Ebel had 8 points to go with four steals.

The Scots are back in action on December 10 at Hiram.
