Women's Basketball Falls to Buena Vista in Game Two of Daytona Trip

Kaminske leads Alma scorers with 16 points

Daytona, FL – Alma College Women's Basketball took part in their second and final game during their winter trip to Florida on Saturday. The Scots were defeated by Buena Vista, 70-67.
 
Alma found offensive success quickly, scoring 10 points in the first five minutes of the game. Leading 10-8 halfway through the first quarter, BVU finished on a 10-6 run, and the Scots trailed 18-16 after the opening period. Alma tied the game to open the first quarter, and took their first lead of the game when Cadence Kaminske hit a go-ahead three pointer to make it 23-22. Alma went on to lead by as much as 12 as the quarter wore on. However, the gap was shrunk down to eight at halftime, with the Scots leading 37-29 at the break.

Out of the halftime break, Alma held their lead around nine points, pushing out to a 12-point advantage near the midway point of the third at 45-33. Late in the quarter, it was Buena Vista who strung together a 10-0 run, which trimmed the Alma lead to just one points at the end of the third quarter, 48-47 the score. BVU snagged the lead for the first time in the second half with 7:17 to play in the game. After a few lead changes, BVU was able to hang on to the advantage, and despite a late push from the Scots, it was Buena Vista who ran out 70-67 winners.
 
Cadence Kaminske led the way in scoring with 16 points and seven rebounds. Breckyn Werner put together an outing of 14 points and eight boards, along with a pair of steals and blocks. Kate Starkey had eight points and a pair of rebounds.
 
The Scots are back in action on January 3 when they continue MIAA conference play at The University of Olivet.
