Olivet, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball was on the road on Saturday afternoon, returning to MIAA conference play at The University of Olivet. The Scots were victorious by a final of 68-53.
Olivet opened the scoring with seven straight points to get out ahead early. Alma took nearly four minutes to get on the board, but found their scoring stride, rattling off a 7-0 run of their own to level the game with 4:47 to play in the opening quarter. The Scots went bucket for bucket with the hosts as the quarter rolled on, and it was the Comets who got the last make, with Alma trailing 15-13 after one. The Scots took their first lead of the game at the 8:41 mark of the second quarter on a
Kate Starkey three, leading 18-17. Although Olivet fought to get back in front, the Scots scored a go-ahead jumper from
Mady Weber with 6:55 to go in the period, which gave them the lead for good. From there, the Alma offense rocketed the Scots out to a 12-point lead, which Olivet was able to trim to six at halftime, 38-32.
Out of the halftime break, three straight points from Olivet dropped the Scots lead to 38-35, the closest that the Comets came to retaking the lead. Alma pushed back out to a 12-point lead, which they held at the halfway point of the quarter. The lead was extended as high as 14 with 3:44 to play, before the hosts connected on a few shots. Weathering the storm, Alma led by 10 after three quarters. Entering the fourth quarter, Alma survived one more Olivet push, before extending their lead out to a game-high 15 points at 66-51. The defenses clamped down for the final four minutes, and Alma ran out 68-53 winners.

Kate Starkey with 17 points, fueled by four made threes.
Molly Deurloo scored 10 to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Breckyn Werner also netted 10 points, and
Mady Weber collected nine points and seven rebounds.
Alma is back in action on January 7 when they host Calvin University.
