Daytona, FL – Alma College Women's Basketball opened play at the Daytona Beach DIII Shootout on Friday with an overtime victory, defeating Regis College (MA) by a final score of 92-88.
The game began at a measured pace offensively, with Alma holding a narrow 4-2 lead midway through the opening quarter. The teams traded baskets throughout the period, and the Scots emerged with a slim 12-11 advantage after one. Alma built momentum in the second quarter, extending the lead to seven at 19-12 near the midway point. While the Scots briefly pushed the margin to 11, Regis responded late, knocking down a three-pointer to trim Alma's halftime lead to 30-22.
Regis came out of the locker room with efficiency, quickly cutting the deficit to two points just two minutes into the third quarter. The game remained within one possession for much of the period, but Alma weathered the surge. A late offensive push allowed the Scots to reestablish control, taking a 55-44 lead into the final quarter.
Alma maintained its 11-point cushion early in the fourth, leading 62-51, before Regis stormed back with a 16-4 run to take a 67-66 advantage with just over three minutes remaining. The Scots reclaimed the lead in the closing seconds when Sarah Ebel converted a layup with 18 seconds left, but Regis answered to force overtime.
The extra period saw multiple lead changes before Alma delivered the decisive blow. Reese Wisniewski drained a go-ahead three-pointer with 39 seconds remaining, and Kate Starkey followed by converting a pair of free throws to secure a late five-point cushion and seal the 92-88 victory.
Starkey led all scorers with 21 points, adding three rebounds and three assists. Cadence Kaminske contributed 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while Molly Deurloo posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Alma returns to action on Saturday, taking on Buena Vista to close out its Sunshine State trip.
