University Heights, OH - Alma College Women's Basketball opened their 2025-26 season on Friday night at #14 John Carroll. The Scots were defeated by the Blue Streaks 97-56.
Alma battled hard in the early minutes of the opening quarter. Trailing 9-6, a
Molly Deurloo three-pointer tied the game halfway through the period. John Carroll finished on a 9-4 run, leading 18-13 at the end of the first. The hosts extended their lead to 10 points in the early going of the second quarter. The Blue Streaks offense then caught fire, with the home side shooting 64% from the floor, and 83% from beyond the arc. When the dust settled, it was a 33 point quarter that saw JCU leading 51-30 at halftime.
The Blue Streak offense continued to hit shots at a clip of 62% in the third quarter, holding Alma to 23% shooting at the same time. JCU opened with a 12-3 run to lead 63-33 halfway through the quarter, and outscored Alma 14-8 in the latter half of the frame. The Scots trailed 79-44 after three. In the fourth, Alma was held to 38% from the floor, and the Blue Streaks put together a pair of short runs en route to a 97-56 final score.
Cadence Kamiske led Alma scorers with 13 points to go with two assists and a steal.
Molly Deurloo and
Kate Starkey each tallied eight points, with Deurloo also adding a pair of rebounds and assists.Â
Breckyn Werner had six along with a team-high seven rebounds.
Alma starts the season 0-1, and will face Lebanon Valley (0-1) tomorrow afternoon.
