Oberlin, OH – Alma College Women's Basketball was on the road on Tuesday evening, taking on Oberlin College in non-conference action. The Scots were defeated by a final of 64-51.
Oberlin jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter, extending their lead to 10-4 late in the period. A late Scots run closed the margin down to 15-11 at the end of the first quarter. A trio of makes from Oberlin opened the lead up to nine points, with the home side getting leading by as much as 11 midway through the frame. Alma ripped off a 13-3 run to pull back within one point at the halftime break, trailing 29-28.
Oberlin opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run to open up an 11-point lead. Alma still wasn't finished, as the visitors pulled out 10 straight points of their own, and trailed 41-40 with 2:28 to play in the third. The Scots trailed 45-42 at the end of three. Alma battled to a 52-48 deficit halfway through the final quarter, but Oberlin was able to pull away to 64-51 final score.
Molly Deurloo led Alma's scorers, notching a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Kate Starkey tallied seven points, and
Breckyn Werner recorded seven points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Alma drops to 2-5 on the season, and looks forward to continuing MIAA conference play against Adrian on December 6.
