Holland, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball were on the road on Tuesday evening, taking on the nationally ranked Flying Dutch of Hope College to open MIAA conference play. Alma was defeated by a final of 85-59.
Alma opened the game strong on the defensive end, holding Hope to seven points in the opening half of the first quarter. Leading 11-7, Alma surrendered a 14-8 scoring run, which saw Hope leading 21-19 after the first quarter. The Scots were playing basket-for-basket in the early moments of quarter two, tied 26-26 before the Flying Dutch scored 14 straight points to open a decisive gap. A
Cadence Kaminske jumper cut the run, but Hope piled on another seven to lead by 19 at the half, 47-28.
The open to the third quarter was low scoring, with the Scots limiting Hope to 1-4 from the floor in open play. Alma continued to battle and largely went score-for-score with the hosts. The Scots' scoring was fairly balanced, with five different scorers in the frame for the visitors. After three quarters, the Hope lead was 68-45. The Flying Dutch got off to a strong start in the fourth, but it was Alma who closed on an 8-6 run at the end of the contest. The final score rested at 85-59.
Cadence Kaminske led the way with a 23-point outing, and
Kate Starkey collected eight points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Sarah Ebel also scored eight points, and
Reese Wisniewski tacked on seven more.
Molly Deurloo led the rebounding effort with six boards.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they host Otterbein.
