Kalamazoo, MI – Alma College Volleyball was on the road on Wednesday night, taking on the Hornets of Kalamazoo College in MIAA play. The Scots were defeated by a final of 3-1.
The game was tight throughout all four sets played, and things just didn't fall in Alma's favor. Kalamazoo jumped out to a 10-4 lead early in set one, only for Alma to shrink the gap to one point at 11-10. The Scots never got to lead in the set however, as Kzoo powered back out to a five-point lead, and a late push from the Scots wasn't enough en route to a 25-19 set one score.
In set two, it was Alma who used a pair of early six and five-point runs to build a 14-7 advantage, leading by as much as eight points at 17-9. The hosts strung together a 6-1 run of their own, but Alma leveled the game at one set apiece with a 25-18 set win.
The Scots led throughout much of the third set, with the Hornets keeping in touching distance. The visitors weren't able to build a lead larger than four points, and a late run by Kalamazoo tied things up at 24-24. After some extra volleyball, it was the Hornets who took the set 27-25.
In the fourth and final set, it was Kalamazoo who led by margins of four and five early on, only for Alma to even the score at 14-14. The teams went nearly point-for-point with one another until a 23-23 tie was broken by the home side, who took the set 25-23, and the game 3-1.
Emily Carling led with 11 kills in the loss.
Mallorie Nevadomski had nine, and
Natalie Dutton had eight.
Olivia Deeb recorded 19 assists, and
Rudy Maynard had 18. Defensively,
Madison Munley led with five blocks, and
Grace Steiner had 24 digs.
Alma drop to 9-10 on the year, 2-1 in MIAA play. The Scots are back in action on Tuesday when they take on Albion College.
