Alma, MI – Alma College Volleyball continued MIAA conference play on Friday night, welcoming Adrian College as a part of homecoming weekend. The Scots snapped a three-game losing streak to the Bulldogs dating back to 2022, winning 3-1 on the night.
The Scots came out firing, tallying 12 kills in an opening set that swung back-and-forth in terms of momentum. When Alma was able to gain some separation at 16-11, the Bulldogs came roaring back, falling just short at 25-23. In set two, Adrian raced out to a 7-2 lead, only for the Scots to catch fire. Alma worked back to a one-point deficit at 9-8 to force an Adrian timeout, also forcing the visitors to take their second timeout with the Scots then leading 11-9. Alma led 16-9 before Adrian was able to stop the bleeding, but it was only temporary. The Scots cruised to a dominant 25-14 set win.
Adrian scrapped and fought to take the third set. The teams were neck-and-neck until the Bulldogs connected on an eight-point run to lead 17-12. A furious Scots comeback effort was thwarted, and the visitors forced a fourth set, 25-23. The Scots won the fourth set decisively, getting out to a six-point lead at 14-8. Adrian nearly tied the game at 14, but only came within one. Alma ripped off a four-point run, and didn't look back en route to a 25-19 win.
Mallorie Nevadomski led the way with a career-high 18 kills, followed by
Natalie Dutton with 12, and
Katelyn Schell with seven.
Emily Carling had three aces, and
Rudy Maynard led with 24 assists.
Olivia Deeb also collected 15 assists and two aces.
Defensively, Schell had seven total blocks, a game high, and
Grace Steiner had 13 digs. Maynard and Carling each recorded 10.
Alma moves to 9-9 on the year, and 2-0 in MIAA play, while the Bulldogs drop to 1-14, 0-2 in conference.
Alma is back in action when they take on Kalamazoo College on the road on October 8
th. The Hornets are 8-9, and play The University of Olivet tomorrow at 1 PM.
