ALBION, MI - Alma College Football put together a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating rival Albion College 48–27 at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium to remain unbeaten in MIAA play.
The Scots wasted no time setting the tone. Senior running back Eddie Williams capped Alma's opening drive with a 9-yard touchdown run, then added another score on a 17-yard reception from Carter St. John later in the quarter. Williams punched in his third touchdown of the day on a 1-yard rush to give Alma a 20–7 advantage after the first quarter.
St. John continued to spread the ball around in the second quarter, connecting on a 38-yard touchdown strike to Ryan McNiff and a 55-yard bomb to Zach Poff that stretched the lead to 34–7. Albion managed a pair of late scores before halftime to close the gap to 34–21, but Alma's offense had already done the bulk of its damage.
Albion made it a one-score game early in the third quarter, trimming the deficit to 34–27, but the Scots responded immediately. St. John found Brodrick Miller or a 4-yard touchdown, and Williams added a 3-yard score — his fourth of the afternoon — to rebuild the cushion to 48–27. From there, Alma's defense clamped down, holding the Britons scoreless the rest of the way.
Alma racked up 568 yards of total offense, averaging 8.5 yards per play. The Scots balanced attack featured 288 rushing yards, and another 280 through the air compared.
Williams powered the ground game with 154 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries, plus one receiving score. St. John was efficient under center, completing 14 of 21 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.
Poff led all receivers with three catches for 107 yards and a touchdown, while McNiff and Miller each hauled in scores of their own.
On defensen Jett King paced the Scots with eight solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Brock Beaudrie added an interception as Alma forced key stops in the second half.
Saturday's result marked Alma's third straight conference victory and another strong all-around showing for the offense. The Scots have now scored 40-plus points in back-to-back games and continue to showcase one of the league's most balanced attacks.
Alma moves to 4-2 with the win, and 3-0 in MIAA play. The Scots take on the University of Olivet next week on the road.
