Albion, MI – Alma College Men's Soccer continued MIAA conference play on Saturday afternoon, taking on rival Albion College. The Scots lost a tight game, 2-1 the final.
The first half was a balanced effort from both sides. Albion had more shots at 6-5, and corner kicks were level at one apiece. The Britons broke through in the 38
th minute, taking a 1-0 lead that they would carry into the halftime break.
Our of the half, the momentum tilted in the home side's favor. The Brits outshot Alma 10-3, and had five corner kicks to the Scots' one. Against the run of play, Alma was able to equalize when an Albion foul resulted in a penalty kick for the visitors.
JJ Riggsby hit a rocket to tie the game up at 1-1 with 25 minutes to play. Albion would go on to convert a penalty of their own in 77
th minute, and held on for the 2-1 win.
The total shot count was 16-8 in favor of Albion, with the hosts getting to edge in shots on target as well, 10-4.
Riggsby's goal was his 3
rd of the season.
Bradshaw Uhlmann got the start in goal, making eight saves in the loss.
Alma drops to 6-6-1, 0-2 in MIAA play, and are back in action on the road at Trine on October 15
th.
