ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College Men's Basketball Team battled hard but ultimately fell to the Olivet Comets in a 69-56 loss at
Art Smith Arena on Wednesday night. Despite a strong effort with solid bench contributions, Alma struggled to overcome Olivet's efficient inside scoring and second-half execution.
The game started as a back-and-forth contest, with Alma taking an early lead thanks to a three pointer from
Jeremy Rosario. Alma's
Korbin Heitzman provided a spark off the bench, contributing six points to keep the Scots within striking distance. However, Olivet capitalized on Alma's 9 first half turnovers, scoring 7 points off turnovers in the first half. Olivet would have a 33-26 lead going into the break.
Alma opened the second half aggressively, cutting the lead to four after a three-pointer from
Donovan Collins. However, the Comets used their size advantage to dominate the glass, outrebounding Alma 45-35. Despite Alma's strong defense, Olivet maintained their lead behind strong free-throw shooting and continued pressure inside. The Scots struggled from the field in the second half, shooting just 24.3%, which allowed the Comets to pull away.
Alma continues to search for its first win of the season as they travel to Albion their next MIAA game. The Scots will play the Brits on Saturday, February 1, with tipoff scheduled at 3:00 PM.
