Kalamazoo, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball was on the road on Wednesday night to take on MIAA opponent Kalamazoo College in MIAA league play. After a slow start, the Scots propelled them to an 11-point victory.
Alma's offense didn't look slow in the opening minutes of the contest, with the Scots scoring the first four points of the game in 60 seconds. Alma opened a 10-4 lead halfway through the period, but the Hornets refused roll over early. The hosts chipped their way to a tie game at 12-12, and ripped off a 10-2 run from there to lead 22-14 after one.
After falling silent, the visiting offense roared to life in the second quarter. Halfway through the period the gap was cut down to just three, and the Scots tied the game at 33 apiece with just under three minutes to play. Alma finished on a 7-2 run to flip the script, and lead by five at the halftime break.
Out of halftime, the Scots pushed their advantage to nine points at 50-41 halfway through the third quarter. Still, Kalamazoo refused to let the Scots escape their grasp, keeping the lead to single digits for most of the quarter. The visitors did just enough to push the gap up to 11, leading 58-47 heading into the fourth.
The hosts weren't ready to let Alma run away the game in the fourth, opening with an 8-2 run to reel the Scots back into touching distance at 60-55. A three-point play from Kzoo dropped the gap to two, but that was as close as the home side would come to victory. Alma scored six straight, and was able to weather the remaining lunges by the Hornets to win 75-64.
