ANGOLA, Ind. - The Alma College Men's Basketball team faced a tough challenge on the road Wednesday night falling to #3 Trine University, 77-48, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) matchup at the MTI Center.
Trine set the tone early, opening up the game with a 5-0 run. Alma's
Donovan Collins answered with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 5-3. However, Trine capitalized on Alma's turnovers, turning them into fast-break opportunities to build a 20-7 lead by the midway point of the first half. Alma kept pushing as
Jeremy Rosario and
Raine Rodich provided offense, but Trine's efficiency in the paint kept the Thunder in control. Trine maintained the lead going into halftime with a 39-24 lead.
Despite efforts by Alma to claw back, Trine's defensive efforts and bench contributions kept the Scots at bay. Alma struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 15.4% of their three-point attempts in the second half.
Paul Gadde made a significant impact on the board grabbing a game high nine rebounds, while Rosario led Alma in scoring with 13 points. The Thunder's ability to capitalize on Alma's turnovers, outscoring Alma 34-12 in points off turnovers, proved decisive.
The Scots return home to face Kalamazoo College on Saturday, January 18
th, at
Art Smith Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM, following the Alma Women's Basketball game versus Hope College at 1:00 PM.
