Men's Soccer Unbeaten in 7 Straight with Shutout of Heidelberg

Tiffin, OH – Alma College Men's Soccer earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Heidelberg University on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Hoernemann Stadium. A first-half goal from Christian Sweis proved to be the eventual game-winner as the Scots held on for the win.

Alma controlled much of the first half, creating several dangerous opportunities. Mateo Cianci nearly put the Scots ahead in the second minute but was denied by the woodwork. Ethan Swartzentruber also had two close chances, forcing the Student Prince's goalkeeper to make saves. The breakthrough came in the 30th minute when JJ Riggsby assisted Sweis, who volleyed the ball past Heidelberg's goalkeeper, to give Alma the 1-0 lead.
Heidelberg fought back in the second half, applying pressure to the Scot's defense. The Student Princes managed four shots on target in the second half, but Alma's goalkeeper, Bradshaw Uhlmann was solid in the net and made a save on every shot he faced. Despite Heidelberg's push, the Scots were able to grind and keep a clean sheet, earning them their seventh win of the season.

Alma improves to 7-2-1 on the season and will wrap up its non-conference play at home on Friday, October 4th, when they host Kuyper College at Scotland Yard.
