Women's Soccer Travels to Ohio for Weekend Slate

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Alma College Women's Soccer traveled to Ohio to face Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) on Saturday, September 21st, and Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday, September 22nd, looking to find a rhythm heading into conference play. No such luck would come as the offensive struggles continued. The Scots lost both matches by a score of 4-0. 

Mount Vernon Nazarene 4, Alma 0 

Alma opened the weekend against Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) on Saturday. Anna Waterstredt attempted the match's first shot on goal at the 8th minute, but it was saved by the opposing goalkeeper to hold the score at 0-0. The Cougars got on the board first by finding the back of the net at the 9th and 15th minute marks to take an early 2-0 lead. Waterstredt got off another shot on goal at the 18th minute, but it was saved once again by the home team. Mount Vernon Nazarene scored their third goal of the first half at the 21st minute to improve their lead to 3-0, which is where the match stood going into halftime. 

The Scots defense held stronger in the second half, allowing only one goal which came with 3 minutes left to play to bring the final score to 4-0. Hannah Abner attempted the lone shot on goal in the second half for Alma. Mya Pofahl recorded 9 saves on the day. 

Ohio Wesleyan 4, Alma 0 

To wrap up the weekend, the Scots faced Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday. After having a shot blocked and two shots saved by Alma's keeper Mya Pofahl, the Battling Bishop's prevailed at the 23rd minute, scoring the first goal of the match. Following two more shots saved by Pofahl and another shot blocked, Ohio Wesleyan found the back of the net again at the 36th minute to improve their lead to 2-0, which would hold into halftime. 

Alma's defense was tested early in the second half, recording a blocked shot and three more saves by Pofahl before allowing a goal at the 52nd minute to bring the score to 3-0 in favor of the Battling Bishop's. About four minutes later, Ohio Wesleyan would score again to bring the score to 4-0, which was where the match stood at the final horn. Anna Waterstredt got off the only shot on goal in the game for the Scots while recording three shots total. Bryn Bishop attempted two shots with Allyson Harvey, Abbi Johns, Grace Buckingham, Sophia Cooney, and Kylie Lewis each attempting one. Pofahl ended the match with 9 saves. 

Alma will open conference play with their next game on Wednesday, October 2nd, at 4:00 p.m. against Calvin University at Scotland Yard.
