Women's Soccer Begins Conference Play Against Calvin University

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Soccer welcomed Calvin University to Scotland Yard on Wednesday, September 24th, to open conference play. The Knights, ranked 18th in the United Soccer National Coaches Poll, proved a tough match up, earning a victory by a score of 3-0.

The Scot's defense was challenged from the start, giving way to a Calvin goal off a headed corner kick about 2 minutes into the match. Mya Pofahl was able to stand strong in goal, saving 6 shots before the Knights would add to their lead at the 18th minute. Calvin wasn't content with only 2 goals, however, as they struck again at the 38th minute, improving their lead to 3-0. This advantage would hold for the Knights heading into halftime.

The second half was a defensive battle with neither side willing to give way. The score stood at 3-0 at the conclusion of the game with both teams fighting hard to the end.

Pofahl ended the match with 10 saves while Breanna McCluskey, Emily Ahearn, and Hannah Abner each recorded a shot attempt.

Alma will take to the road next on Saturday, October 5th, at noon to face off against Hope College.
