Men's Soccer Wins 3rd Straight With Late Marker Over IU-Northwest

Gary, IN – Alma College Men's Soccer battled to a thrilling 3-2 team victory over Indiana University Northwest on Wednesday night. The Scots extended their winning streak to 3 games.

The match saw its first breakthrough for the Red Hawks in the 33rd minute. The Scots however, responded just 6 minutes later, leveling the score. In the 39th minute, Felipe Soto tallied his first career goal with a 30-yard strike that went bar down. This tied up the game at 1 and gave the Scots momentum going into halftime.

In the second half, Alma came out strong. Quality tactical adjustments allowed the Scots to create shots early and take a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute, when Fletcher Van Howe scored off an assist from Ethan Swartzentruber. The Scots continued to create chances, peppering the Rew Hawk goalkeeper and forcing him to make saves. In the 79th minute, Bradshaw Uhlmann saved a penalty kick, but the opposition tapped the rebound into the goal against the run of play. Alma remained resilient, and just two minutes later Matthew Przepiora netted the game-winning goal in the 81st minute with a quality strike from distance, securing the 3-2 victory for the Scots.

Throughout the match, the Scots dominated in offensive chances, registering 16 shots, with 10 on target. Defensively, Uhlmann made 5 saves out of the 7 shots on goal that were faced. The Scots back line showed aerial dominance by handing all the long through balls they faced. The game saw physical intensity with the Red Hawks being sent to 10 men and the teams each tallying 4 yellow cards. Alma maintained composure and saw the game out to close out the win.

With this hard-fought team victory, Alma continues to build momentum with a record of 4-2-0. Alma looks forward to their next match where they will be hosting Great Lake Christian College at Scotland Yard on September 18th.
