Defiance OH – Alma College Men's Soccer traveled to Defiance College on Wednesday afternoon, securing a dominant 3-0 victory.
The Scots struck early in the match, taking the lead in the 15th minute when Raul Lopez connected a brilliant strike into the far top corner of the goal. The goal was assisted by
Mateo Cianci, who has two assists in the past two games. This goal gave Alma the upper hand, and they would never look back. The Scots came out firing after substitutions were made, forcing 4 additional saves from the opposing goalkeeper. Alma maintained the 1-0 advantage throughout the remainder of the first half leading at the break.
Coming out of the half time break, Alma kept up the pressure. In the 63rd minute,
Mateo Cianci added to his team lead in points with an unassisted goal, doubling the Scots lead. Cianci now has 7 points in his first 5 games this season. This goal put the Scots firmly in control of the game. Just over ten minutes later, in the 75th minute,
Ethan Vollstedt placed a cross from
Kaiden Link into the bottom left corner. This goal marks Vollstedt's second in as many games and Link's first point as a Scot.
On the defensive side, the Scots maintained a strong backline throughout the match, limiting Defiance's chances. Goalkeeper
Bradshaw Uhlmann recorded 7 saves in 75 minutes of play and
Grant Kaifas had 3 saves in 15 minutes. Uhlmann and Kaifas combined for a clean sheet. Defiance registered 16 shots, but Alma's defense held strong, preventing any from penetrating the net.
Alma outshot Defiance 40 to 16, putting consistent pressure on the opposition for all 90 minutes. The Scots also earned 9 corner kicks compared to Defiance's 4.
With this victory the Scots improve to 3-2-0 on the season and look forward to their upcoming away trip to Indiana University-Northwest this Saturday.
