Volleyball Opens Season at Rosalie Resch Invitational

Chicago, IL – Alma College Volleyball opened their season on Friday evening at the University of Chicago. The Scots were felled in a pair of matches against Loras College and St. Olaf.
 
Loras 3, Alma 0
 
In Alma's first match of the day, the Scots struggled offensively against a veteran Loras squad. The Scots dropped the game in straight sets 25-19, 25-16, 25-19. The Duhawks held Alma to just 23 kills in the loss, and allowed just a single ace. The battle at the net was fairly even, with Alma notching 3 blocks to Loras' 4.
 
Nevea Bush was the offensive leader for Alma, picking up 9 kills, also notching 2 assisted blocks. Madison Bott scored 5 kills while recording 6 digs as well. Vicky Villarosa picked up 13 assists in the loss. Defensively, Grace Steiner led the team with 10 digs, followed by Reagan Thorr with 7.
 
St. Olaf 3, Alma 0
 
In their second game of the day, Alma took on St. Olaf. The opposition jumped out to a quick lead in the opening set, taking it 25-17. Alma fought hard to overcome a 5+ point deficit late in the second set, but fell just short at 25-22. The momentum carried St. Olaf to a 25-13 win in the final set to take the game.
 
Alma was outkilled 48-21 in the game, but did see an improvement in serves, landing 6 aces. Thorr collected 6 kills to go with 2 assisted blocks and 3 digs. Bush scored 6 kills alongside Thorr as well. Villarosa and Steiner both landed 2 aces apiece, with 4 Scots scoring from the service line. Olivia Deeb registered 9 assists, and Villarosa picked up 8.
 
Villarosa and Steiner recorded 8 digs each to lead the team.
 
Alma is back at it tomorrow with games against Carleton and Lawrence University.
