Volleyball Splits Day 2 at the Rosalie Resch Invite

Chicago, IL – Alma College Volleyball participated in day 2 action of the Rosalie Resch Invite at the University of Chicago on Saturday. Alma saw a pair of single game records tied in games against Carleton and Lawrence.

Carleton 3, Alma 2
Alma's first game got off to a cracking start, with the Scots claiming their 1st set win of the season in the opener, 25-22. Carleton responded with a pair of set wins, 25-16 and 25-23. With their backs against he wall the Scots found themselves trailing 13-8 in the 4th set. Alma ripped off 14 straight points en route to claiming the set 25-18 and forcing the 5th. Carleton would use a run of their own to take a 12-6 lead in the 5th, which the Scots just couldn't overcome, dropping the final set 15-11.

Reagan Thorr tallied 14 kills, adding 3 aces and 8 digs. Nevea Bush also netted 14 kills in the win. Madison Bott recorded 7 kills, and tied the Alma College single game record for aces in a game with 7, also snagging 10 digs. Vicky Villarosa added 22 assists to her season total.

Also equaling a Scots record was Callie Smith, who hit a total block number of 10, tying the single game record at Alma, set back in 2015. Grace Steiner led the way defensively with 18 digs.

Alma 3, Lawrence 0
The Scots' second game of the day was against Lawrence University. Alma jumped out to a solid start, winning the opening set 25-19. The second set saw Lawrence get out to a 6-4 advantage, with Alma using an 11-4 run of their own to take the lead back for good. After 3 more points for the Vikings, the Scots ripped off an 10-4 run to close out the set. The third set turned out to be the final set of the game, and was a neck and neck battle the whole way. Alma trailed by deficits of 3 and 4, but didn't let things get out of hand, reeling the Vikings back in. The game needed a few extra points, but the Scots pulled out the 27-25 set win to take the game.

Bush led the offense with 9 kills, adding 3 assisted blocks. Bott just missed a double-double, notching 8 kills and 11 digs in the win. Villarosa tallied 16 assists, and Olivia Deeb added 9 assists to go with 9 digs. Callie Smith led blocking efforts with 2 total blocks.
