Alma, MI – Alma College Athletics is proud to announce the Hall of Fame Class to be inducted in the Fall of 2024. The class consists of 2 teams and 6 individuals.
Teams
Women's Field Hockey – 1983
Alma's 1983 Women's Field Hockey team won the MIAA outright for the first time in program history. The Scots finished MIAA play with a record of 9-2-1, finishing a half game ahead of Hope College to claim the crown. The Scots scored an MIAA high 30 goals, while allowing a conference low 10 tallies against. Lori Fedewa, Mary Douglas, Lori Audrain, and Stacey Emeott were named All-MIAA.
2003 Women's Volleyball
Scots Volleyball fielded a national contender in 2003. Alma posted a 31-6 record overall, winning the MIAA outright for the second straight season at 13-1, which was also their 3rd title in a 4-year run where the Scots claimed at least a share of the top spot. Alma earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the MIAA tournament, and were eventually felled in the Regional Semifinals. Lindsay Baker was named MIAA MVP, with Erin Fralick, Kerri Judson, and Kristin Judson garnering Second Team All-MIAA honors.
Individuals
Mary Douglas Burns '85
Mary Douglas Burns '85 was a 4-year letterwinner for the Scots in the sport of Field Hockey. A 2-time team MVP, Douglas was named First Team All-MIAA twice in her career. During her senior year she scored the most points in a career (44), recorded the most assists (10) and was second in goals scored (17).
Lindsey Baker Evans '05
Lindsey Baker Evans '05 was a force in the MIAA throughout her career at Alma. Baker was named MIAA MVP in back-to-back seasons (2003, '04) and was a 3-time First Team All-MIAA selection. To this date, Baker holds 3 of the top 6 slots in the 'single season assist' category. In addition, she holds the top 2 spots in terms of single season aces. Her career total of 5,106 assists remains untouched, with the closest mark nearly 1,200 assists away.
Justin Scott Harris '01
Justin Scott Harris '01 played on Alma's defensive line, also lining up at linebacker and fullback for the Scots. He was a 2-time All-American and picked up numerous accolades as his career went on. In 1999 Harris was named All-MIAA, won the Dan Nichelson Most Valuable Defensive Lineman Award, was a D3football.com First Team All-American, and a Hewlett Packard Second Team All-American. 2000 saw the senior garner preseason All-American honors from 4 different publications. He lived up to expectations, being named First Team All-MIAA, winning the Nichelson award again, picking up All-American honors from 3 different publications, and representing Alma and MIAA in the D3 Senior All Star Bowl.
Clare Kreger '73
Clare Kreger '73 represented Alma College on the national stage in a time when cross country and track and field looked much different than they do today. The Scots competed against the likes of Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, etc. In MIAA competition, Kreger was dominant, running to All-MIAA honors in 1970, '71, and '72. He reached the top step of the podium in 1972 finishing in 1st place. He also scored a pair of top 5 finishes at the NAIA District level. On the national stage, Kreger made the NCAA meet in all 4 years, and placed as high as 55th in the country. In track and field, he registered 4 top 5 finishes at the MIAA league meet.
Jim Parker '74
Jim Parker '74 was a dual sport athlete during his time at Alma, playing baseball and basketball. A four-year starter in both sports, Parker picked up 4 total All-MIAA accolades, and led the baseball team in average with a .362 in 1972, before upping that number to .428 in 1974. He holds several places in the Alma baseball record book, namely in the categories of batting average, home runs, and slugging.
Leigh Ann LaFave Sayers '05
Leigh Ann LaFave Sayers '05 sits in the Alma record books as one of the most dominant pitchers in the history of the softball program. A 4-time First Team All-MIAA selection, LaFave was lights out in league play every season. The hurler amassed an 18-4 record in MIAA play, with a 60-15 record overall. She was twice named MIAA MVP, twice an All-Region selection, and once an All-American pick. LaFave recorded 4 no hitters in her career. She holds many places in the softball record book, the most impressive being her 0.71 ERA, which ranks second all-time, and is the lowest total by any Alma pitcher to complete more than one season.
