Softball Sweeps Albion as Alma's Hansen Picks Up 900th Win

Alma, MI – Alma College Softball welcomed MIAA opponent Albion College in to continue conference play on Tuesday. The Scots swept the Britons, winning 7-0 and 7-1. The wins came with meaning, as they marked Assistant Coach Phil Hansen's 900th, and 901st wins with the program.

Alma 7, Albion 0

Game 1 started off slowly from an offensive standpoint, with neither team able to gain much traction. The Scots managed to break the tie when Jordyn Porter crushed a 3-run shot to left center to give Alma the lead.

The Scots scored again in the 4th inning. A leadoff Amelia Price home run gave way to a pitching change and a bases loaded opportunity, which Morgan Brandau used to draw a bases loaded walk and score another run to make it 5-0.

The insurance marker came in the form of the third longball of the game, off the bat of Danielle Dumoulin, bringing the score to 7-0 Alma.

Danielle Dumoulin went 2-3 with 2 RBI, and Jordyn Porter was 2-4 with 3 RBI. Reneigh Sandmann drew 3 walks in the game.

Mikaylyn Kenney (10-1) pitched 6.0 innings in the win. She struck out 7 while allowing just 1 hit. Megan Krueger pitched 1.0 inning in relief, allowing 1 hit.

Alma 7, Albion 1

The Scots were quick to score in game 1, using a Morgan Brandau 2-out single to score the game's first run. Albion answered with an RBI single of their own, and the game was tied up.

Alma retook the lead in the 4th inning when an error allowed two runners to be in scoring position, and Jaycie LaValley scored on a passed ball. Sophia Somerset advanced on the passed ball, and scored on the next at-bat from a Gwen Weber sac fly to make it 3-1.

The home nine scored again in the 5th RBI on singles from Jordyn Porter and Somerset, moving the score to 5-1 Alma.

Brandau homered in the 7th, and Somerset connected on an RBI double to balloon the Scots lead to 6 at 7-1 where the score would stay.

Brandau went 2-2 with a pair of RBI, Somerset went 2-4, with 2 RBI.

Morgan Westall (6-4) pitch 6.2 innings in the win, striking out 4 and allowing 5 hits.
