Alma, MI – Alma College Softball welcomed MIAA opponent Albion College in to continue conference play on Tuesday. The Scots swept the Britons, winning 7-0 and 7-1. The wins came with meaning, as they marked Assistant Coach
Phil Hansen's 900th, and 901st wins with the program.
Alma 7, Albion 0
Game 1 started off slowly from an offensive standpoint, with neither team able to gain much traction. The Scots managed to break the tie when
Jordyn Porter crushed a 3-run shot to left center to give Alma the lead.
The Scots scored again in the 4
th inning. A leadoff
Amelia Price home run gave way to a pitching change and a bases loaded opportunity, which
Morgan Brandau used to draw a bases loaded walk and score another run to make it 5-0.
The insurance marker came in the form of the third longball of the game, off the bat of
Danielle Dumoulin, bringing the score to 7-0 Alma.
Danielle Dumoulin went 2-3 with 2 RBI, and
Jordyn Porter was 2-4 with 3 RBI.
Reneigh Sandmann drew 3 walks in the game.
Mikaylyn Kenney (10-1) pitched 6.0 innings in the win. She struck out 7 while allowing just 1 hit.
Megan Krueger pitched 1.0 inning in relief, allowing 1 hit.
Alma 7, Albion 1
The Scots were quick to score in game 1, using a
Morgan Brandau 2-out single to score the game's first run. Albion answered with an RBI single of their own, and the game was tied up.
Alma retook the lead in the 4
th inning when an error allowed two runners to be in scoring position, and
Jaycie LaValley scored on a passed ball.
Sophia Somerset advanced on the passed ball, and scored on the next at-bat from a
Gwen Weber sac fly to make it 3-1.
The home nine scored again in the 5
th RBI on singles from
Jordyn Porter and Somerset, moving the score to 5-1 Alma.
Brandau homered in the 7
th, and Somerset connected on an RBI double to balloon the Scots lead to 6 at 7-1 where the score would stay.
Brandau went 2-2 with a pair of RBI, Somerset went 2-4, with 2 RBI.
Morgan Westall (6-4) pitch 6.2 innings in the win, striking out 4 and allowing 5 hits.
