Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Lacrosse continued MIAA play on Saturday when they hosted Kalamazoo College. The Scots were bested by Kalamazoo 17-11.
The Hornets were quick to jump on the Scots early, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the game. Kalamazoo jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter before Alma was able to answer with a
Joanna Scorziello tally at 1:08 in the 1
st. However, the visitors scored again to make it 6-1 after one quarter.
The Hornets struck again as the teams struggled back and forth, Kalamazoo trying to pull away, and Alma trying to reel them in. The home team got a pair of woman-up goals from
Sam Peterson, with the latter being assisted by Scorziello. Another Peterson marker at 6:13 to go in the frame would cap the Alma scoring, as the Scots trailed 11-4 at haftime.
The first goal of the third quarter was claimed by
Kirsten Browne at 12:36. Kalamazoo answered with a pair of goals, but Alma wasn't going away. Peterson scored at 3:28, and
Sarah Bollinger found the scoresheet at 2:52 to bring the gap down to 6 after three quarters of play.
The visitors fired in 3 quick goals to lead by 9. Peterson scored at 8:59 to go, and following a Hornet goal in response, the senior would score once more, followed by
Briar-Rose Mackey and Browne, who capped the scoring at 1:41.
Sam Peterson recorded a 6 goal game, also picking up 4 groundballs, and 6 draw controls.
Celeste Welch picked up 3 groundballs, and
Lauren Kenny added 2 while causing 3 turnovers and snagging 2 draw controls.
Cassidy Smith (3-6) picked up the loss in net, making 11 saves.
