Holland, MI – Alma College Women's Lacrosse opened MIAA conference play on the road at Hope. The Scots were felled 17-9 by the Flying Dutch.
Hope College got on the board first, opening the scoring at the 13:55 mark of the first quarter. Alma answered with a
Sam Peterson goal at 10:48 to knot things at 1-1. Hope then struck fast and often, ripping off an 8-0 run of goals in 6:00 to lead 8-1. Peterson scored again to make it 8-2, and Hope answered with 0:11 left to place the score at 9-2 after one.
The Scots got two more goals from Peterson in the second quarter, with Hope scoring 3 for the Flying Dutch to lead 12-4 at halftime. Alma scored a pair of unanswered goals out of halftime, with
Sarah Bollinger and
Rileigh McGeorge finding the back of the net, and
Kirsten Browne scoring with 0:12 left in the quarter. Alma won the quarter 3-2, cutting the deficit to 7 at 14-7.
McGeorge and Peterson scored one more goal apiece, with the hosts scoring 3 times to counter, and the final score reading 17-9.
Despite the loss, stats read fairly even in most categories, and some tipped Alma's way. This included ground balls, which Alma won 30-21, and turnovers where Alma committed 6 less than Hope.
Sam Peterson led the way with 5 goals 5 ground balls, and 3 caused turnovers in the loss.
Sarah Bollinger scored once, and caused 4 turnovers while securing 4 draw controls.
Olivia Warren picked up a career high and game high 6 ground balls.
The Scots continue MIAA play when they host Kalamazoo on Saturday.
