Holland, MI – Alma College Softball continued MIAA play on Thursday when they traveled to Hope College to take on the Flying Dutch. Alma dropped both contests by finals of 2-0 and 6-2.
Hope 2, Alma 0
The Scots offense struggled to capitalize on the chances it had in game one. The Scots had 7 hits scattered across the game, yet had several chances to score.
However, the Hope pitching staff did an excellent job of working out of jams, and forced Alma into stranding 7 runners in the contest.
The Flying Dutch were able to finally break the scoring drought on an RBI double in the 6
th, which would prove to be the only runs of the game. Hope worked out of a jam in the 7
th to close out the game.
Jaycie LaValley hit 2-4 in the game, and led he offense with the only multi hit performance of the game.
Mikaylyn Kenney (10-5) pitched 6.0 innings in the loss. The sophomore allowed just 4 hits and struck out 1.
Hope 6, Alma 2
Both offenses were limited heavily for a majority of game two. Alma was able to scratch across a run in the 2
ndinning thanks to a McKenna Salley RBI single, which scored
Sophia Somerset to make it 1-0.
Hope wasn't able to strike back until the 5
th, when an RBI triple scored a pair of runs to give the Flying Dutch the lead at 2-1. The home nine were able to tack on 4 more runs in the top of the 6
th inning, pushing the lead to 6-1.
Despite a
Danielle Dumoulin homer in the 7
th inning, Alma was unable to complete the comeback, falling 6-2.
Dumoulin led the Alma offense with a 2-4 game. She was one of 7 Scots to record a hit in the loss.
Julia Duncan was the other Alma player to record multiple hits, going 2-3.
Morgan Westall (6-8) pitched 5.1 innings in the loss, allowing 9 hits and striking out 2.
Megan Krueger pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing 3 hits and no runs.
Alma drops to 17-13, and looks to halt an 8-game slide when they host Kalamazoo College on Saturday.
