Alma, MI – Alma College Softball welcomed Ohio Northern in on Sunday in non-conference play. The Scots were swept by the Polar Bears, 8-3 and 13-3.
Ohio Northern 8, Alma 3
Ohio Northern scored in the top of the 1
st on a sac fly to lead 1-0. Alma responded immediately, scoring on a
Morgan Brandau bunt single that saw
Julia Duncan scamper home to tie the game. The Scots scored the go ahead run soon after on a
Jordyn Porter RBI single to right field, and led 2-1 after 1 inning.
Ohio Northern tacked on a pair of runs in the 2
nd to take the lead back, and piled on 4 more in the 4
th inning to lead 7-2. Alma scored one more run in the 5
th in the form of a Duncan RBI double to left that scored
Jaycie LaValley.
That would be all the scoring for Alma, as the Polar Bears put up 1 more run in the 6
th, and went on to win 8-3.
LaValley and
Danielle Dumoulin each recorded multi-hit games in the loss.
Mikaylyn Kenney (10-3) picked up the loss. The sophomore went 3.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs and 7 hits while striking out 3.
Megan Krueger pitched 3.2 innings in relief, allowing 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 2.
Ohio Northern 13, Alma 3
Alma's offense was limited heavily in game two. Ohio Northern's pitching was able to scatter 3 hits over the first 6 innings of the game. In the same time frame, the Polar Bears built a lead.
The visitors scored 2 in the 1st on a home run, and added 4 more runs in the top of the 6th to lead 6-0. ONU piled on 7 more runs in the top of the 7
th inning, and lead 13-0.
Alma scored three runs in the 7
th, gaining a pair off of an
Erin Longo home run, and another from an
Reneigh Sandmann RBI single. Ultimately, it wasn't enough, as Alma fell 13-3.
Jenna Holzinger went 2-3 in the loss.
Morgan Westall (6-6) pitched 6.2 total innings in the loss, giving up 2 earned runs, and 7 hits while striking out 6.
Halle Mockridge pitched 0.1 inning in relief, allowing 7 hits and 7 earned runs before being relieved by a Westall re-rentry.
Alma has the week off before heading to Trine to take on the top ranked team in the country on Sunday.
