Softball Swept by Ohio Northern in Non-Conference Twinbill

Alma, MI – Alma College Softball welcomed Ohio Northern in on Sunday in non-conference play. The Scots were swept by the Polar Bears, 8-3 and 13-3.

Ohio Northern 8, Alma 3

Ohio Northern scored in the top of the 1st on a sac fly to lead 1-0. Alma responded immediately, scoring on a Morgan Brandau bunt single that saw Julia Duncan scamper home to tie the game. The Scots scored the go ahead run soon after on a Jordyn Porter RBI single to right field, and led 2-1 after 1 inning.

Ohio Northern tacked on a pair of runs in the 2nd to take the lead back, and piled on 4 more in the 4th inning to lead 7-2. Alma scored one more run in the 5th in the form of a Duncan RBI double to left that scored Jaycie LaValley.

That would be all the scoring for Alma, as the Polar Bears put up 1 more run in the 6th, and went on to win 8-3.

LaValley and Danielle Dumoulin each recorded multi-hit games in the loss.

Mikaylyn Kenney (10-3) picked up the loss. The sophomore went 3.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs and 7 hits while striking out 3.

Megan Krueger pitched 3.2 innings in relief, allowing 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 2.

Ohio Northern 13, Alma 3

The visitors scored 2 in the 1st on a home run, and added 4 more runs in the top of the 6th to lead 6-0. ONU piled on 7 more runs in the top of the 7th inning, and lead 13-0.

Alma scored three runs in the 7th, gaining a pair off of an Erin Longo home run, and another from an Reneigh Sandmann RBI single. Ultimately, it wasn't enough, as Alma fell 13-3.
