Cincinnati, OH – Alma College Women's Lacrosse was on the road for the first half of a weekend back-to-back in Ohio on Saturday. Alma dominated in a shutout victory over Mount St. Joeseph.
Alma jumped on the scoreboard first when
Rileigh McGeorge opened the scoring at 10:02 in the first of a
Sam Peterson assist. Minutes later it was
Sarah Bollinger scoring, also off a Peterson assist to make it 2-0. The Scots would double their lead to 4-0 on unassisted tallies from McGeorge and
Joanna Scorziello. McGeorge recorded her third goal to complete a hattrick with 53 seconds to go in the first. After one quarter Alma led 5-0.
Briar-Rose Mackey was the first to net a goal in the second, scoring at 12:32.
Lauren Kenny followed suit scoring at 10:13, and McGeorge scored her 4
th goal at 7:58.
Kylie Lewis then found her way onto the sheet under a minute later with an assist from Peterson, her third apple of the game. Lewis turned around a minute later and made it a multi-point game when she assisted
Kirsten Browne at 5:46 to bring the score to 10-0. Skyler Glotfelter's first of the game grew the gap to 11-0, and Lewis' second tally off a Scorziello helper saw the Scots up 12-0 at half.
McGeorge and Peterson scored a minute apart to open the third quarter, and Scorziello's second goal gave Alma a 15-0 lead halfway through the frame.
Mary Draher then stamped her name into the goal column with a mark at 6:26, and Peterson struck again 30 seconds later, 17-0.
Emma Sage's first career goal rounded out the scoring after three quarters at 18-0 Scots.
The firsts continued into the final period of the contest.
Olivia Warren got an assist from Peterson, scoring her first career goal at 13:05 remaining in the game. Warren also gave an assist to
Kirsten Browne, before scoring again at 4:46 to play.
Celeste Welch found her way onto the scoresheet as time winded down, scoring twice in the final 2:30 to cap the scoring at 23-0 Alma.
Alma executed their gameplan to perfection on the evening. The Scots outshot The Mount 49-0 in the win, won the groundball battle 37-14, caused 19 turnovers as a team, and went a perfect 11-11 on clears.
Rileigh McGeorge was the leading scorer with 5 goals, while
Sam Peterson's 5 assists were a big part of her game high 7 points. McGeorge also led with 9 ground balls, and caused a game high 4 turnovers.
Cassidy Smith (2-3) and
Alexis Norko combined for a shutout, with Smith picking up the win in goal.
The Scots move to 2-3, and look ahead to a tough Otterbein team tomorrow evening.
