Women's Lacrosse Unable to Overcome Slow Start at Otterbein

Westerville, OH – Alma College Women's Lacrosse completed the second half of their Ohio roadtrip on Sunday evening with a game against Otterbein. The Scots were defeated by a final of 14-7.

The hosts jumped on Alma quickly, scoring 2 goals in the opening 1:06 to take an early lead. That lead ballooned to 4-0 on a pair of powerplay goals for the Cardinals. Alma was able to slow the scoring for Otterbein, but was unable to score any goals of their own. Their offense stymied, the Scots trailed 4-0 after 1 quarter.

The offense came to life in the second for the Scots. Kirsten Browne got the visitors on the board with a powerplay marker at 14:38 from a Sarah Bollinger assist. After recording the assist, Bollinger scored a goal of her own at 9:49 to bring the deficit to 2. Otterbein broke up the Alma scoring with a tally of their own, but Alma clapped back with 2 more goals as the period was winding down. Briar-Rose Mackey and Sam Peterson were the scorers as the margin shrunk down to just a single goal. The hosts scored 3 times in the final 2:00, but a Peterson goal assisted by Joanna Scorziello helped to keep things in hand at 8-5 come the halftime buzzer.

Otterbein clamped down defensively in the second half. The Scots were limited to just 2 goals from Browne and Mackey, while the hosts found the back of Alma's net 6 times to pull away. The final score read 14-7 in favor of the Cardinals.

Briar-Rose Mackey, Sam Peterson, and Kirsten Browne all scored a pair of goals in the loss. Peterson led with 3 points on the night. Celeste Welch and Olivia Bunce each grabbed 4 groundballs, and Bunce tied with Browne to lead with 2 caused turnovers.

Cassidy Smith (2-4) made 5 saves in the loss, Alexis Norko registered 4 saves in second half relief action.
