Lexington, KY – Alma College Women's Lacrosse continued non-conference play on Friday evening at Transylvania University. A strong second half wasn't enough for Alma to overcome a slow start, with the Scots falling 12-8.
The defending HCAC Champions scored three early goals to put the Scots in a 3-0 hole off the rip. The score remained at 3-0 until
Kirsten Browne scored with 1:53 to go in the opening quarter, cutting the deficit to 2. The home team scored once more to push the lead back up to 3 at the end of one.
The Pioneers opened the second quarter with more scoring, netting a pair of goals before Browne answered for Alma at the 11:08 mark of the period. Transy scored twice more to lead 8-2, with the Scots getting another tally from Browne, her third of the game. Another pair of goals were put up by the hosts to bring the score to 10-3 at halftime.
The second half firmly belonged to Alma. Transylvania scored first out of the break, but the Scots offense came to life as the quarter wore on.
Joanna Scorziello scored at 11:44, and Browne netted a powerplay goal, her fourth of the game.
Briar-Rose Mackey was the goal scorer on the next Alma goal as the Scots continued to work well with a player advantage. After three, the score sat at 11-6 Transy.
The Scots scored first in what would prove to be a defensive and low scoring fourth quarter.
Sam Peterson bagged a goal at 10:08 to bring Alma within 4. However, the Pioneers scored to put the game away with 5:38 to go. Browne would land one more tally in the goal column for Alma with 1:17 to go, but it wouldn't be enough to complete the comeback.
Browne led the charge offensively, with 5 goals for Alma. Peterson scored once, and assisted on a pair of goals to tally 3 points in the loss.
Rileigh McGeorge stood out on defense with a game high 6 caused turnovers.

Alexis Norko shined in relief, taking over goalkeeping duties late in the first half. The sophomore netminder stopped 6 of 9 shots against, and was a big piece of keeping Alma in the game as the contest wore on.
The Scots have a week to prep, before going back to work as the team heads down to Tennessee for a pair of games.
