HOLLAND, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball traveled to the Devos Fieldhouse at Hope College on Saturday, February 10th for a weekend conference contest. The Scots hung around for a majority of the game though the Flying Dutchmen came away with the win, 74-63.
Gabe Bourdeau opened the scoring in the contest with a triple, giving Alma the lead. Connor Riley and Colton Meister each added on with layups stretching the lead. Hope would tie the game shortly after and take their first lead of the contest around five minutes into action. Alma regained the lead on a Donovan Collins three before both teams traded the lead for the next several possessions. Back-to-back Xavier Glenn Jr. layups extended the Alma lead which they would hold onto until the nine-minute mark, where Hope would tie the game again. Bourdeau then knocked down another three and Meister converted down low in the paint to help Alma sustain a lead before the Flying Dutchmen would go on a run. A 9-0 run gave Hope a two-possession lead, the largest of the game for wither team to that point before adding on shortly after. Alma went into halftime trailing by eight, 36-28.
Hope opened the half extending their lead to 10, before the Scots nailed two threes from Tyshaun Walker and Bourdeau. The Flying Dutchmen then proceeded to go on a 17-0 run to open the game up and try to put the Scots away early. Alma responded right away with a 9-0 run to tighten the game back up, though the clock was ticking down to the final minutes. With time dwindling, Alma found themselves down too far with not enough time remaining. Alma would leave the fieldhouse falling, 74-63.
Riley led in the scoring department with 13 as Bourdeau scored 12 right behind him. Walker led Alma in rebounds with seven as Riley and Bourdeau each dished out three assists. Nolan Boffman tallied three steals in the game to tie for the game-high.
Alma will now travel for their final regular season conference game to Adrian on Wednesday, February 14th. The Scots will face the Bulldogs at 7:00 PM looking for some love in the win column on Valentine's Day.
