Alma, MI – Alma College Volleyball closed out the regular season during the week, hosting Trine University on Wednesday, before traveling to Calvin University on Friday night. Alma was defeated 3-0 in both games.
Trine 3, Alma 0
The Scots hosted the Thunder on Wednesday evening. After a rough opening set, which saw the Thunder win 25-9, Alma found it's offensive footing. The Scots doubled their kill total in the second set, but saw the visitors take it 25-18. The Trine defense worked well in the third set, with the Scots offense limited to 4 kills in the frame, while Trine won 25-16.
Madison Bott was the offensive leader with 5 kills along with 12 digs.
Callie Smith collected 4 kills as well as an ace, and 2 assisted blocks.
Katelyn Schell, and
Reagan Thorr both notched 3 kills.
Olivia Deeb added 15 assists at setter.
Grace Steiner led the defense with 14 digs.
Calvin 3, Alma 0
The Scots closed their regular season on Friday against Calvin. Alma went into the contest with an MIAA Tournament berth already clinched. After an early start by Calvin, the Scots fought their way back into the set, trailing 14-11. The Knights were able to pull away to a 25-19 victory. Alma's offense was limited in the second and third sets, and the Scots struggled to gain traction. Calvin won both sets by score of 25-12.
Phoebe Humphrey was the offensive leader for Alma, notching 6 kills and 7 digs.
Callie Smith collected 4 kills along with an assisted block.
Madison Munley picked up 3 kills,
Madison Bott had 2, as did
Katelyn Schell.
Olivia Deeb totaled 9 assists and
Vicky Villarosa added 7 along with 7 digs. Bott and
Grace Steiner each collected 6 digs in the loss.
Alma closes out the regular season, and with a 3-5 record secures the 6-seed in the MIAA Tournament. The Scots await their opponent with the bracket release shortly to find out their first round opponent.
