University Heights, OH – Alma College Women's Basketball opened their season on Friday night against SUNY Brockport in Ohio. The Scots were defeated 91-72.
Brockport opened the game on a 6-0 run, and worked their way to a 12-9 advantage. Solid defense from the opposition limited Alma's scoring, and saw the Scots down 22-16 after the first. The Scots opened the second quarter with a pair of
Megan Leslie threes to tie the game at 22-22, and took the lead at 24-23 with a
Sarah Ebel free throw. Brockport took that lead back, and were able to build their 6-point lead back by the end of the half at 43-37.
The Scots failed to close the gap in the second half, with Brockport managing to widen the margin between the two teams in the third quarter, holding a 64-51 advantage at the end of three quarters, and pulling away to a 19-point win in the final period.
Megan Leslie (22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals) soared to a career high in points on 8-18 shooting from the floor.
Breckyn Werner (13 points, 4 rebounds)
Madelyn Weber (8 points, 3 rebounds) and
Brooke LeRoux (6 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists) were key contributors in the loss.
Alma is back at it tomorrow with a game against Grove City College.
