University Heights, OH – Alma College Women's Basketball continued play at the Winking Lizard Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday. Alma defeated Grove City in overtime, scoring their first win of the season.
The opening quarter was low scoring, with the teams combining for 13 points, and Grove City up 7-6. The opposition was able to push their advantage up to 3 as the scoring picked up. GCC outscored the Scots 14-12 in the period, and led 21-18 at the halftime break. After shooting 7-30 from the floor in the first half, the Scots made 7 buckets in the third quarter, shooting 2-3 from beyond the arc. Grove City won the quarter 19-18, leading by 4 heading into the fourth. Alma was able to tie the game, forcing overtime at 53-53.
Grove City opened the scoring with a made free throw, taking a 54-53 lead. A
Breckyn Werner layup a minute later gave the Scots the lead. The lead changed hands several times, and it looked like GCC had it for good with a made jumper to go up 58-57 with 23 seconds left.
Brooke LeRoux proceeded to make a clutch three with 4 seconds to go, giving Alma the win.
LeRoux led all scorers with 22 and 13 rebounds. Molly Duerloo scored 8 points and also had 13 boards.
Emmerson Goodin also scored 5 and was a presence on the glass with 12 rebounds.
Alma is back in action on November 16 when they host Heidelberg.
