Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball welcomed in Heidelberg University on Saturday for their home opener. The Scots claimed victory by a final of 64-49.
The game got off to a defensive start, with Alma grabbing a 7-3 lead. The Scots were stellar in their own end off the jump, holding the Student Princes to 5 points, and pulling out an 8-point gap at 13-5 after the opening quarter.
The scoring picked up in the second, with Heidelberg doubling their offensive output at 11 points. The Scots scored 16 points on 40% shooting from the floor to take a 29-16 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The home side pushed their advantage out to 17 in the first half of the third quarter. The visitors fought, but weren't able to stop Alma from leading by 19 after three quarters.
With the game in hand, the Student Princes mounted a push to open the fourth quarter. Alma's lead closed from 21 down to 12, but the Scots ended any threat of a comeback with back-to-back threes from Molley Duerloo and
Brooke LeRoux. Alma held on, cruising to the end.
Alma was led by
Brooke LeRoux, who totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds with 4 steals. Molly Duerloo scored 13 and snagged 5 boards.
Breckyn Werner tallied 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The Scots are back in action on Friday at the Lauren Hill Classic against Mount St. Joseph.
