Volleyball Splits Pair, Sees MIAA Tournament Berth Clinched

Alma, MI – Alma College Volleyball hosted  a pair of games last week, playing their final non-conference game of the year against Kuyper on Tuesday, before welcoming #2 Hope College in on Friday.
 
Alma 3, Kuyper 0
Alma welcomed in Kuyper College on Tuesday, winning in straight sets 25-12, 25-9, 25-7. The Scots dominated the game in all aspects, leading in all possible metrics. The hosts landed 13 aces, 32 kills, 5 blocks, and notched 30 assists, while holding Kuyper to single digits in the same categories.
 
Reagan Thorr and Madelyn Herzberger each notched a game high 7 kills, while Katelyn Schell totaled 5. Rachel McGlothin tallied a career high 6 aces, Thorr and Allie Fish each picked up 2. Fish also led the game with 3 total blocks in the contest. Olivia Deeb recorded a game high 18 assists with 6 digs. Grace Steiner collected 9 digs, adding 5 assists.
 
#2 Hope College 3, Alma 0
On Friday, Alma returned to MIAA play, bringing in the #2 team in the country in Hope College. Alma got stronger as the game went on after a rough first set, but fell in a sweep to the Dutch 25-9, 25-11, 25-15.
 
Callie Smith recorded a team high 5 kills, Schell added 4. Madison Bott tallied a pair of kills, along with an ace and 2 blocks. Olivia Deeb totaled 7 assists to go with 7 digs, and Grace Steiner picked up 11 digs to lead Alma.
 
The Scots move to 3-3 in MIAA play, and clinched their spot in the MIAA tournament with a loss by Olivet on Saturday afternoon. Alma is currently in line for the 6th seed in the tournament, with a pivotal game against Trine on Wednesday in Art Smith Arena.
